“A fabulous course and a great weekend. Lottie is the most brilliant teacher - it was such fun that it really didn’t feel like a lesson. We learned so much and we all came away with a beautiful pleated lampshade. There were six of us on the two day course. It was a lovely atmosphere with lots of chatting and stitching! Can’t recommend the course highly enough.”
“The course was very informative, perfectly structured and took into consideration everyone’s previous sewing experience. It was a pleasure to attend, the space is great for a small group and convenient to get to. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and knowlgable. I look forward to attending another workshop soon!"
From recent participants
Soft lampshades are currently enjoying a revival of interest. Traditionally made using plain fabrics, they are now being created from an array of fabrics.
You will learn all the skills you need to make your own pleated lampshades, fully lined and finished to a high standard. You will then be able to go on to make more shades, either professionally or for your own use.
IF OUR DATES DON’T WORK FOR YOU, GET IN TOUCH, AS WE MAY BE ABLE TO RUN A CLASS FOR YOU AND A FRIEND (MIN 2) AT DATES CONVENIENT TO YOU.
DAY ONE: 10-5.00pm
Binding your lampshade frame (a straight sided empire frame 25cm base measurement).
You will learn how to bind your frame
Measuring and making a pleated lining for the lampshade from cotton or linen
Pleating your fabric, and attaching and hand sewing it onto the frame
DAY TWO: 10-5.00pm
Hand sewing your lining onto the frame
Making and attaching bias binding for your lampshade
Completing any hand sewing your outer gathered fabric onto the frame
You do not need any previous experience, although a love of hand sewing or an intention to have one is ideal! There is a lot of hand sewing required to attach your fabric onto the frame.
WHAT TO BRING:
Please bring your own fabric - approximately 1.5m - thinner and finer fabrics are best (75-135gsm )- we recommend lawn cotton NOT cotton poplin
0.5m light cotton for the cotton.
We will have a small selection of fabrics, but please let us know when booking if you would like this service to ensure we have enough on site.
All courses are 2 days, some run over 2 consecutive weeks, some run 2 days in a row - please be sure to note dates when booking. The timings for 2 days in a row are slightly longer.
Maximum 6 people per course.
